3
Hot on the heels of the announcement that Super Street Fighter IV 3D has been confirmed for the Nintendo 3DS launch, Capcom has revealed that Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D is also headed to the new hand-held platform this summer.

Alongside the announcement, new screens and a new trailer have also been released for your ogling pleasure.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D was announced for the 3DS back in September of 2010, and will feature co-operative play online. An exact release date has yet to be shared.

I still don't get why this is being released as a standalone game. It'll be fun, but it's traditionally been an extra mode in core RE games. It's never been something I'd pay for on its own. Maybe that's just me?

I think it's being released as a standalone game because some people are super excited about the 3DS and its potential so they're going to go out and buy it on day one and then realize there's a very lackluster lauch lineup. They'll then be desperate to buy games for their new toy even if they wouldn't normally buy a RE: Mercenaries standalone game. These people will probably include me. =(

Although if it takes them too long to release it, and some other big name games are out, then disregard thihs idea....

How do you know it'll be exactly like the old mercenary mode in RE3 or w/e?

Sounds like it's been massively expanded to me.

Of course it'll be expanded, but for me it doesn't qualify as a standalone title. There's a precedent: Mercenaries has been an unlockable bonus since RE3. Even expanded, I'm having trouble wrapping my head around paying around 40 bucks for something like that. But again, that's just me.

Because it's a launch title, I guess. I have a feeling the 3DS library is going to be quite slim for a little while after launch.
