Peter Molyneux to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at Game Developers Conference 2011
by Steve Watts, Jan 19, 2011 12:45pm PSTOutspoken studio head Peter Molyneux will receive a lifetime achievement award at this year's Game Developers Conference. The award recipient is chosen by a Game Developers Choice Awards Advisory Committee, which includes various luminaries from throughout the industry.
The Lionhead founder will be recognized for his years of experience and his part in creating the "god games" genre. Molyneux will be delivering a lecture series at GDC 2011 as well, regarding the god game genre and his title Populous. Molyneux helped found Bullfrog Productions in 1987, then left in 1997 to found Lionhead Studios. His studio was bought my Microsoft in 2006, and he is currently the Creative Director at Microsoft Game Studios. He's best known recently for Black and White and the Fable series.
"Peter is a remarkable asset to the games industry and truly embodies everything that the Lifetime Achievement Award represents," said event director Meggan Scavio. "We're proud to honor someone who has had such a profound impact on the industry, through his boundless enthusiasm and profound talent in creating games about choice and interactivity that the entire world loves to play."
Bundled in the announcement was also word that Tim Schafer of Double Fine will host the Game Developers Choice Awards this year. This will be his third time hosting, after appearances in 2007 and 2009. The awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at 6:30 p.m. in the Moscone Center at San Francisco.
