Morning Discussion

Be honest--you're excited about Deus Ex: Human Revolution, aren't you? You might pretend you're too bitter and jaded and insist that it'll never live up to the original and it's a cash-in and you just know it'll be disappointing but deep down inside, you're ridiculously excited. You can't deny that you peek at the cinematic trailer every now and then, or that you didn't audibly cry "TAKE ME NOW, FOR I NOW KNOW BLISS!" when you read PC Gamer's recent preview covering augmentations and inventory Tetris. You can't. The more you hear, the more you want Human Revolution.

Or maybe that's not what you think. Perhaps I'm forcing my words into your mouth. But that's okay, because I'll still pretend that deep down inside you're all excited about it too. The original Deus Ex is still one of my favourite games and if I'm getting this excited about a game I've never played, blindly raising my expectations, well, I'm really setting myself up for a fall. If I can pretend you're this excited too, though, I can find comfort in the imagined solidarity. So yes, you want it. Because I need you to. I'm glad we settled that.

There is only one thing I am concerned about, potential lack of JC TENTON.

Haha, watched the "JC Denton visits the myserious closet" one. Just hearing the music was cool, but then lol at not being able to fit through the window and fat-fingering the number pad, getting to the nerd hole at the end.

JC Tenton wears sunglasses at night because the diabeetus has blinded him.

JC Tenton's coat does not make him look bigger then he really arrrr, he's just hoping that black is slimming for him.

Why would Parisian bakeries need infra red security? Cause JC Tenton is in town!

It's a terribly boring level. It's open, flat, with zero ancillary details and I don't want to hear BUT ARCKNIGHT THIS GAME IS OLDER.

System Shock 2 is older too motherfucker, and yet is chock full of detailed scenery.

You know why I'm excited? It looks cool yeah, maybe not like Deus Ex but that's alright, because it's going to be a well polished shooter RPG that takes the RPG aspect really seriously.

My god, think of it, the last time someone bothered to balance and make functional a good game like this was fucking Deus Ex itself. That's 11 years ago now. Since then it's been Alpha Protocol, DXIW and Vampire Bloodlines.

Someone might wanna point out mass effect in a minute. Let me cut you off right there - Mass Effect is a self hating homo, it's got a total JO bud approach to the whole RPG thing. "Yeah we'll do stats and shit BUT SERIOUSLY NO GAY STUFF BRO HALOS OF WAR HUNGH YEAH >:(" Deus Ex is going to have something like thirty augs and I think most if not all of them are going to be little mini skilltrees of their own. Now that's god damn character building.

I mean I wasn't arguing about Mass Effect 2's back end (insert Miranda joke here)...but they're still damn good RPGs.

MercFox they're fun games but not damn good RPGs. The first ME is a game where you do make some real character building choices, but 2? They killed half the relevance of classes by letting you add weapon proficiencies to whatever you were playing. Once you had like three attributes to upgrade and could give assault rifles to your biotic, it almost didn't matter what class you played. That's not a very RPG thing at all, MercFox, and I hope they tone it down in 3.
