Evening Reading
by Xav de Matos, Jan 18, 2011 5:00pm PSTAs I sit here and type this the only thing I can think about are the piles of previews and interviews I have to write out for the rest of this week. When I say "rest of this week," what I really mean is tonight because I don't have any other time to do it. Thankfully, I'm taking a breather beginning Friday and returning on Monday night.
I haven't traveled for non-work related reasons in a while, so it will be nice to not have to worry about my schedule, or laptop, or voice recorder. Or taking piles of notes.
Speaking of notes, remember to jot down this note for yourself: "Keep refreshing Shacknews tomorrow morning because Nintendo is set to reveal its launch details for the 3DS in North America tomorrow."
Here's the video game news of the day from the Shack to tide you over while you wait until the morning:
- Portal 2 Packs PC-PS3 Cross-platform Play & Chat
- Square Announces Final Fantasy XIII-2 for PS3 and Xbox 360
- Bethesda Details 'Creation Engine' for Elder Scrolls V
- Report: Nintendo 3DS Will Have a Form of Region Protection
Here are some random musings from around the web:
Editorial: With Xbox One, you are the controller (and the DRM)
Microsoft may phase out 'Live Arcade' designation on Xbox One
Xbox One won't allow indies to self-publish games
Microsoft won't cater to 'traditional desktop PC gamers' with first-party strategy
Kinect for Xbox One coming to PC

As an aside, I am nearly certain Akumu is an emerging lesbian. For one, she just looks the part. Like a girl that is becoming pretty, but kind of shunning being too girly while also not being a total tomb boy. My niece is pretty, but also taller for her age and I think total dyke fodder. Also, my niece will occasionally talk about boys while Akumu just fawns on my niece and avoids the boy subject. She also actively despises Justin Bieber, and that little fag probably has earned the hatred of tons of gay girls.
That somewhat entertaining background isn't why I am posting this. I'm posting this because Akumu's life bums me out. Her parents are total pieces of shit. They both sit and play WoW and do nothing else all day every day. They don't work. I believe her dad collects some kind of disability and her mom "works for her dad". It's really hard to get anything out of her about it because it's clear she is embarrassed by the whole thing and her parents probably manipulate her into what she does and doesn't say.
They don't ever let her do anything except go to my nieces house, because they are neighbors. This is because Akumu has a younger sister (who I refer to as Akuma but no one gets it) and her fucked up parents basically restrict Akumu's life so that she can watch after her little sister while they just sit in front of their computers all fucking day. I so badly want to do something about it, but it's not like there is abuse or gross negligence (that anyone can tell). It's just a sad case of white trash producing a spiteful, unengaged teenager.
Maybe I should have Akumu make a shack account.
