Evening Reading
by Jeff Mattas, Jan 13, 2011 5:00pm PSTI'm not exactly sure what triggered the impulse, but I've been revisiting the show 'Sifl and Olly' recently on ye ol' YouTubes.
For the uninitiated, 'Sifl and Olly' was a short-lived comedy show created by musicians Liam Lynch and Matt Crocco that aired on late-night MTV from 1997-'99. It bears the distinction of being one of the most-beloved pieces of original comedy programming the network ever aired, while also being one of the lowest-rated. Sadly, despite fan requests, it's unclear if series will ever see a re-release that isn't so rare that it immediately becomes ridiculously expensive.
On that note, have a crescentfresh chatty.

I'm making a freakin Excel spreadsheet just to keep track of where everything stores its stuff, as well as keep track of all the different logins to different services.
For instance, I discovered that Splinter Cell Conviction keeps all save data in the cloud, and none locally. I also remembered my uplay account info and have upoints to spend on Settlers 7 when I install that. Yay.
Dirt 2 on the other hand keeps save data in 3 separate folders, tightly locked down to your GFWL login. Forget to back up all three and your saves are kaput.
And Titan Quest is the worst, as loot stored at the loot storage guy doesnt get transferred in a save, something to do with computer and windows user name or somesuch. :(
Someone needs to make an app that knows where games keep their saves and can keep this crap backed up and up to date. That or everything needs to go 100% cloud. Which is only as good as long as the servers are up.
