F.E.A.R. 3 Delayed Again, Now Due in May

Day 1's spooky shooter sequel F.E.A.R. 3 has again been delayed. publisher Warner Bros. has confirmed it's now slated to launch in May. The game's launch was previously scheduled for March 2011 but had originally been announced for fall 2010

"The F.E.A.R. 3 launch date will now be in May 2011, as we look to deliver the best possible game for our consumers," reads a WB statement provided to us today.

The third game in the fearsome shooter series will hit PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. While series creator Monolith isn't involved, Day 1 Studios has tapped a pair of horror veterans to provide backup; '30 Days of Night' writer Steve Niles co-wrote the script and 'The Thing' director John Carpenter helped out on in-game cinematics.

Rumours of another delay were first sparked last week by an e-mail from retailer Best Buy, received by a member of the official F.E.A.R. forum, stating that the game would launch on May 24. All Warner Bros. has to say for now is that it'll be some time in May.

FEAR 1 & 2 (especially 2...it scared the bejesus out of me) were excellent. I hope they're delaying 3 to make it not suck.

Huh, I was going to say I hope this game is a helluva lot more like FEAR 1 than 2, both in the 'scare' factor and gameplay.

I liked both games quite a lot. But I would have to agree with OP. FEAR 2 game me more "scares" than FEAR 1. And I liked the gameplay a bit more, but I think that had more to do with graphic engine upgrades than actual design.

FEAR 2 is one of my favourite SP fps experiences of all time. So I hope FEAR 3 won't be taking a huge step back from my expectations.

For real? So far I am finding Fear 2 quite boring compared to 1, seems to more focus on graphic design than the combat, and feels a bit console/CoD with so many enemy soldiers. Perhaps I just need to try it again and get into the gameplay more.

I'd agree as far as the combat alone goes - FEAR had stronger combat than its sequel. The difference in the way the horror was presented is probably just a matter of taste, but I think they both did an okay job.

FEAR 2 did suffer a bit from its console-first nature. The save system and other parts were annoyances at first, but I can't say they really bothered me too much after I had spent some time with the game.

I really enjoyed the original FEAR's multiplayer...that slow motion was too much fun.

True, although "Creepy girl appears in doorway then vanishes" is getting a bit old. Looks like that's going to continue sadly...

FEAR 1 was the scariest experience had in any medium and it had compelling narrative and excellent game play mechanism.FEAR 2 not that much evolved form FEAR 1 but still a pretty good game.
