Battlefield 3 Unveiling Planned for GDC 2011

For everyone that is excited, let me say one thing..... *sigh* Multiplatform.

If they can't fit an old PC (2GB sys, 256MB vid) BF2 experience onto the consoles 5 years ago, how are they going to make a cross platform BF3 between a modern PC (>4GB, >1GB) and the same old consoles?

The games will have to be almost completely different in assets, scale, features and gameplay, or one target audience is going to get severely shafted.

Bad Company 2 was extremely good but there are two nagging things that ultimately made me switch to Black Ops that they could EASILY fix via a patch, but it's EA, they are terrible at supporting BC2 just like they were at BC1.

1. Knifing is terrible compared to BC1. You can't pull our your knife for BC1 for knife fights, and it misses about 95% of the time.

2. Spotting is F-ing STUPID. In BC1, and older BF games, spotting actually took some effort. You had to hold your crosshairs over something for 2-3 seconds to spot it for your team. In this game you can simple look in an area and tap the spot button and a bunch of guys light up instantly. It practically ruins the game. And don't tell me "play HC mode"... HC mode is even worse, you die too fast to make vehicle combat fun at all, and I like the HUD.

I've bought almost every BF game since the series launched with 1942, but if they don't fix those 2 things I'll never buy a BF game again.

Am I the only one who feels like EA and Activision really just wear me out with their franchises? I played a bunch of Bad Company 2, some 1943, and I'm working through my stack of games from the Xmas season to get to Vietnam...and now announcing another Battlefield. I wish I could believe it would be more than a year out, but EA doesn't work like that.

It is like I have no chance to miss any of these games / franchises. There is always one version of them less than a year old at all times as well as the next one on the horizon.

Unfortunately consolization will probably not escape this title too.

Let's add some LAN capability please! lol <--- (Obviously a dream! LAN is dead with developers! :-( )

Lets hope that they fix the chopper issue. Because that low flight ceiling is pretty retarded. Can't even have a chopper battle without having a ground AA gun blow you out of the sky in a few seconds. Bring back commander also, I thought that was an interesting RTS aspect to an FPS game. Calling for supplies, artillery shelling, and vehicle drops added more support for the ground troops. I hated jets in BF2, prolly because I couldn't fly them, but I thought they were a good addition to the game. In BC2, you hear those A-10 warthogs fly by and spit rounds and fly off, now THAT is the kind of effect I'm looking for in BF3 if they decide to add jets into the mix.

I can't wait to compare it to the first leaked notes regarding what they wanted to, hoped to, and possibly planned to put into the game like.. wasn't it something like 40 v 40 combat or something. Or was it 64 player combat.. I can't remember :( ... And battalions (merged squads).. .. and other such things..

Anyway I'll ttly get it since I'm a junkie for the BF sandboxy shooter genre.

Has there been any official talk of a release date? Some how I got in my head that it was in 2011, but seeing as how they haven't shown anything yet, I'm assuming that was just a wishful memory I put in my head. I'm assuming on the 1st we'll hear what it is. Can't wait though, BF is the only FPS series I'm hooked on.
