Evening Reading

The BCS Championship finally brings the NCAA football season to a close this evening. I get what they originally intended with spacing out the big game on the schedule, but this year the whole thing stretched out in an awkward way. Heck, we wound up without any good games to watch in the afternoon on New Year's Day, but still watching bowls the following weekend.

Regardless, it should be a good game. Ordinarily, I'd be inclined to take Auburn I think based on the strength of the SEC. Something about playing there makes a team tough. But I like this Oregon team. I think they have a shot at getting off to hot start, and not looking back. So yeah, I guess I'm calling it Ducks in a high scoring affair.

Song of Fire and Ice noobie

I just started the books and am on page 278 of Game of Thrones. I like the setting. I like the characters. I like the backstory of the world. I never thought I'd ever pickup a work of fiction from that section of the book store (it's been 5+ years I think) but this isn't half bad. I don't mind it stretching on past 7 books so long as the author doesn't pull a Robert Jordan.

I don't know where this is all going but I already know that I'd like Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryn to somehow hook up. I'd love to see that combination.

Also, I hope Daenerys' brother gets what's coming to him. On one hand I'd like him to man up, learn how to fight, and make a worthy foe for the Starks, but the way he treated his sister I just want him to get it...badly.

I'm really loathe to gush about movies in public, but having just seen Paths of Glory again, I'm reminded of just how perfect that movie is. I thought it was good before, now I realize that it's probably in my top five favourite movies of all time. How Lolita made it into the Kubrick box set instead of this I'll never know.

So to continue on with the discussion. Which ships do you guys use? I tried most of them, but it seems that Feisar is the obvious winner since it has much better handling. Maybe I need to experiment more. I'm also only half way through HD (getting elite golds) and I haven't touched Fury.

I have the following:

2005FPW (DVI/VGA), U2211H (DVI/VGA/DP), HDTV (HDMI)
Radeon 5850, DVI cables, HDMI cables, DVI -> HDMI adapters, DVI -> VGA adapters

Given all that, is there any possible way to get 3 monitors driven off this? I have a DP cable coming from monoprice, but it'll be a few more days... I want instant gratification!

Basically, constant rain over the past month has culminated in some massive storms which is expected to flood the CBD tomorrow. People in the CBD are basically being sent home now. There is a flood appeal up (not just for Brisbane but for Queensland, we're having massive floods in a lot of areas at the moment) - http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/

This is the first time that this has happened since 1974 and wasn't meant to happen again after the new dam was built. The new dam was at 150% capacity yesterday!

I started using FourSquare today since I was bored out of my mind at the DMV. I noticed that I was able to post fine to Facebook, showing I was at the DMV. But now when I go to FourSquare on the website or in the app, it doesn't show me as going to any places? Is there a delay to how long it takes to update on their site or did I broke it?

I know this isn't new information but we received a demo unit of a Galaxy Tab by Samsung and god that thing is crap. It's sluggish, has a shit UI and crappy touch buttons with bad plastic feeling. I think we will stick with iPads for our physicians for awhile.

I can see the 7" size of it as a benefit for one handed views of patient information but that doesn't make up for the other issues.
