CPL Does Teamplay

Tomservo, do you know of any gaming mags that have the Daikatana demo on the CD? I don't feel like doing a 100 meg DL on my POS 56k. Thanks!

I think this is a response to the PGL coming back. They've had 2 teamplay tourney's (and they were quite good too). And CPL doesn't want to give any market to them at all. They are the top shit right now, and want to keep it that way.

Why are there no huge UT tournaments? Regardless of the fact that certain top players dislike Quake 3...its seems like even less like UT...

What exactly is holding back the competitive UT scene? Sponsorship? Seems like the sponsors would support the more popular game...Perhaps UT sucks for competitive play?(this is so near a fact, but i'll still say it's an opinion.)

Perhaps the majority of hardcore players actually do prefer Q3 to UT? I know fatal1ty enjoys the game immensly, but I'd like basketball a hell of a lot more if I could dunk, shoot 3 pointers...etc...

Perhaps the sponsors want to support the more graphically appealing game? Perhaps it has something to do with id/Epic? Maybe it's just tradition to hold tournaments with id games?(doubtful. sponsors don't drop a hundred grand because of "tradition.")

Remember how all the hardcore players were saying they preferred UT over Q3 back when the two came out? All I seem to be seeing are Q3 tournaments. Am I missing something? What gives?

How does the CPL actually make money ? Just advertisments and sponsorships ? I don't see why computer companies would actually consider sponsoring events cartered to a miniscule "hardcore" fps gamer population to be a wise investment. Would Razor mice suddenly gain a massive following if one of the tourney winners decides to endorse them ? Seems a bit doubtful to me.

I realize that there are some people who actually like tourneys as a spectator sport, but nearly all of these guys are yet again "hardcore" fps gamers. Spectators are probably not a viable source of income for such events. Most people I know, including myself, would hardly consider watching flat-shaded low detail games consisting of characters bunny hoping around and exploiting high framerate physics bugs to be fun.

I think I'll go to the december toury, heh I have dec and jan as vacation time and what better way to spend some of it. wow that gives me almost 6 months of pratice time.
