Sony Online Entertainment will be releasing Magic: The Gathering - Tactics on January 18th for the PC. The game is free-to-play, but will be supported by microtransactions allowing players to "build more powerful spellbooks by purchasing booster packs and taking on additional campaign chapters through the game's integrated story."

A PlayStation 3 version of the game is also planned for release later this year. For more information and a bunch of gameplay footage, please direct your attention to the following developer walkthrough video below.

Sounds kinda interesting, but how would that be better than the one on steam?
Duel of the planeswalkers I think it's called.

Duels of the Planeswalkers is just a digital version of the cardgame.
This looks like it might play a bit differently, as well as has some deckbuilding elements to it (which DotP didn't have).

Which begs the question why it should exist at all, unless it's supposed to supplant MTGO...

From the looks of it MTGO and this are quite different, I don't think anything is trying to supplant anything else.

Duel of the Planeswalkers = Casual version of MTG, with mostly locked decks and effectively NO DECK CUSTOMIZATION ( heart of mtg)

tactics is gonna be MTG Battlegrounds FAIL.

Just give us a functioning version of MTGO; Full Deck Customization, beautiful visuals, working social system, functioning PVP (Competetive and Fun), Rank system skill-based(and deck value based->item lvl @ wow-style); just fund it with micropayments BUT include the option for f2p for the guys who want to FARM, not buy.

but NOOO we gotta do something trendy and hip >_<

I was somewhat interested in it until I read it had no customization for the decks. I was really wondering how they could make such a decision.
