Child's Play Charity Raised Over $2 Million in 2010
by Xav de Matos, Jan 04, 2011 2:30pm PSTPenny Arcade creators and Child's Play charity co-founders Mike "Gabe" Krahulik and Jerry "Tycho" Holkins revealed yesterday that in 2010 the organization raised $2,294,317.53 in 2010.
According to Holkins, the lifetime amount raised by the organization--with help from avid gamers and those with a caring heart--clocks in at just under nine million dollars since the organization was established in 2003.
Thanking the fans, Holkins wrote "If it is possible to Win Charity, you have done so," and openly solicited ideas from readers about how Child's Play can "crest over 2.3 million dollars next year."
Gamasutra reports that sizable donations came from the organizers of the recent Humble Indie Bundle, which contributed $300,000 in late December as well as Microsoft's "Fate of Carmine" Avatar t-shirt fundraiser contributed to $150,000 in donations to the organization.
Other large contributions came from the Desert Bus for Hope, which raised $207,000 and the Indie iPhone sale, which donated 1/3 of its profits totaling $25,000.
The Child's Play charity is "dedicated to improving the lives of children with toys and games." Currently the organization provides support to hospitals in the United States, U.K, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Egypt.
