Rock Band 3 Fender Pro Guitar Pre-Orders Open, Requires MIDI Adapter

7
Pre-orders for the Rock Band 3 Fender Squier Stratocaster full-sized, stringed PRO-mode guitar in the US exclusively through Best Buy. The guitar, which is a fully-functioning axe, will run you a cool $279.99 and is platform agnostic.

It will, however, require the MadCatz MIDI PRO-Adapter which will add another $39.99 to the price tag unless you already own one. Quite the monetary commitment, but if you're also committed to using Rock Band 3 to teach yourself how to play guitar, it's more affordable than lessons.

You can read our Rock Band 3 review, which includes impressions of the PRO Guitar functionality, using the MadCatz Fender Mustang PRO Guitar. The Fender Squier Stratocaster will begin shipping in March, though Best Buy is currently estimating shipping in early April.

I'm assuming that the reason it requires the MIDI-Pro adapter is to keep the guitar itself platform agnostic? Still kind of disappointing that it's not reflected in the price of the guitar itself.

Exactly. Retailers already balk at carrying such expensive console accessories, and to ask them to carry THREE different versions... Yeah. Part of the reason RB3 wasn't offered in a "full band bundle" SKU was because retailers complained bitterly about having to carry multiple huge expensive boxes which take up a ton of shelf space.

I kinda' like having a separate MIDI Pro Adapter: I picked up one tonight, and will use it with my (new!) Roland TD-4 electronic drum set. But I can also use it with my (old and shitty) Casio keyboard and in March with the Squier. When friends come over I won't bother to use the keyboard or Squier, so it'll just be attached to the drums.
