There are a lot of great games coming out early this year and I'm definitely looking forward to LittleBigPlanet 2, Dead Space 2, and Marvel vs. Capcom 3. And that's just in the coming weeks!
Also, the first league of the 2011 GSL StarCraft II season has started with games already in the books and available as VODs. Access will cost you $10 with ads or $20 without.

I have a code for a copy of L4D2 that has been sitting around for months. It's about time that I got rid of it.

My Sennheiser HD595 arrived at the office around lunch time. I finally got home and I tore the 595s out of the box. I was anxious to compare my new toy to the AKG 701s that I already had. My initial impression was that the 595 definitely felt cheaper than the AKG. I suppose this shouldn't be surprising as the 701 is more than twice the price of the 595s. Build and look of the AKG is gorgeous in my opinion. This is not to imply that the 595 has shoddy build quality, but it's like comparing a Toyota Camry to a Lexus ES350. Both quality, but you get better materials and a bit more pizazz for the price premium. I put the 595 on and they felt extremely comfortable. I'm confident I could wear the 595s for several hours without the slightest bit of discomfort.
Of course, it's much too early to give a thorough impression of its performance, but I've been listening to the Radiohead's Let Down for the last 40 minutes or so, starting from about the 3:30 mark (right before the song crescendos into musical bliss). I think I like the sound of the drums better on the Senn's, but believe the 701 does a better job of separating all the layers of sound. It'll be a few weeks before I can truly gauge the performance of the 595 (have to break it in, listen to all types of music, etc.), but I'll certainly have a lot of fun doing it. Congrats to all those who got in on the Amazon deal.

I've been having issues with my GFWL account being suspended due to not paying for Xbox Live Gold.

After they fixed it last week, the problem has come back. For the last 3 hours I've been on the phone with these mouth-breathers and I've gotten nowhere. The Xbox Live support staff have never heard of GFWL and the GFWL support staff can't help me because they have no power to make changes to accounts. The solution I've been offered is to pay for over 2 delinquent years worth of Live Gold for an Xbox I don't have or have ever owned. Three different reps have also informed me that even if I pay this balance, I must stay on the recurring billing program because GFWL costs 7.99 just like on the Xbox (news to me). When I asked where on the website or EULA that it said I had to pay for GFWL, the reps said MS can change that agreement at any time.
So I sit here now with a suspended account and MS has me by the balls. I have around 30 games tied into this account with online/saves/DRM authentication. They said I can settle this by closing the account but I would have to re-buy all the games. I really should have just pirated everything or refused to play any GFWL titles (which I surely will from now on).
I was hoping that we have have some awesome MS folks on here that might be able to help me out, because MS support sure won't.

Any aussie shackers have a jailbroken 3.x iphone and use a pre-paid Vodafone SIM?
I had an extra jailbroken 3.2 iphone 3GS and gave it to my brother to use while he's in aussie-land for 3 months. He bought a pre-paid Vodafone SIM, but it keeps saying invalid SIM and the APN changer isn't working for him.
He's trying to manually change the APN settings, but wanted to see if anybody had any experience or recommendations for this type of thing. Also, is Vodafone ok or should he go with another carrier?

So, I'd like to change things up with the Serious Business Shackbattles that we've played off and on for the past several months.
I want there to be set squads. It will be a pain in the ass, and it might not work at all, but I think if I don't put the effort forth to try it, we'll never know if it failed or if it would have taken off. And I think the best way to go with BFBC2 is to pick 4 man squads, which will be easier to shuffle than 16 man teams. Because I think if we don't to this, we'll continue to have problems with the balance of the matches, and people will lose interest and stop playing in them.
So, ITT, post your in-game name, and I'll start a google doc. If anyone has a suggestion for making sure all the really good players don't end up in the same squad, go for it, let me hear it.
These matches are typically run on Wednesday nights at 9:00PM Eastern, so keep that in mind when submitting your name.

The mod to convert Gunman Chronicles to the Source engine has apparently restarted, with some "new" art: http://www.gunmansource.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=10&Itemid=7
I airquote "new" because a lot of those models and maps look very very close to what the original game looked like. I'm hoping that it's legit, though. For those wondering "What the hell is Gunman Chronicles?", it was originally a Quake mod that turned into a Half-Life total conversion, and was noticed by Valve, who then published the game, which released in November 2000. It still runs in Windows 7, though with duct-tape and bubble gum (i.e.: requires XP SP2 compatibility mode, and maxes out at 1280 x 960, as it's pre-1.1.x.x GoldSrc engine).

What's the best ME1 recap for those who've never played it?
Just got ME2 on the Steam sale, going to play it with the girlie side-by-side for the fun of it. I got halfway through ME1 and have a vague idea of what's going on, but she definitely needs to know whats going on for ME2.
I would have her start with ME1, but I'm trying to get her more into gaming and she seemed excited about ME2, so I didn't want to pull the whole "wellll... we really should play the original game first!" line that demotivates anyone interested in a sequel.
Please help me get her hooked on the Mass Effect universe!
