Evening Reading
by Brian Leahy, Dec 30, 2010 5:00pm PSTThis post, like the one I'll be posting tomorrow night at your regular chatty time is little more than a comments reset to make sure things stay fresh and smooth over the New Years break.
Over break, I hope to hit level 80 in World of Warcraft so I can actually start digging into the high-level Cataclysm content. I'm about to hit 78 and I've been doing mostly quest marathons mixed in with some random dungeons. Queuing as a healer makes that go by so quickly.
Talk amongst yourselves.
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag for PC to come after consoles
DTS Headphone:X brings 11.1 channel surround sound to headsets
Xbox One policy change means loss of family sharing, disc-free gaming
Crytek working on The Collectibles for iOS
I'm really wanting to pull the trigger on it.

Pros:
Beautiful graphics
Hot pursuit gameplay is wildly fun
The controls feel very natural for an arcade racing game
Cons:
Too many events that are not hot pursuit events!
Time trial/rapid response events are incredibly difficult and annoying--must use shortcuts to get gold medals, stupid penalties for collisions, way too much traffic
Limited number of tracks/environments
No manual shifting!
Cars are not customizable in any way
Interceptor mode can be frustrating as the racer is able to escape too easily (and I screw it bugs out sometimes)
No racer escape mode to parallel the cop interceptor mode
Can't really skip cutscenes (hitting A to skip still shows a 10 second cutscene)
Can't skip movies
No jumps like the old NFS:HP games
AI stills rubber-bands, especially the cops when you're playing a racer. They can run alongside you even when you use turbo mode which is supposed to make you go fast enough to escape EMPs. Cops don't get a turbo mode but somehow AI cops are able to catch up and pass racers that are in turbo mode
