Portal 2 Coming to Retail from EA Partners

7
Although any Portal 2-based news will be a disappointment unless it includes the words "available now," today we're one step closer to seeing the game in stores.

EA and Valve have announced a retail distribution agreement between the two companies that will bring Portal 2 to retail shelves. The partnership was expected, as EA and Valve have already worked together to bring The Orange Box and both titles in the Left 4 Dead franchise to stores.

Valve will distribute Portal 2 for PC and Mac via its digital platform Steam, while EA will presumably distribute the game to retail channels for all planned platforms: PC, Mac, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

In early November, Valve told Shacknews that Portal 2 would launch on April 20 for all platforms in North America. According to the press release today, Europe will be able to make portals on April 21.

This game is a preorder purchase for me, but before having played it I have mixed feelings about the co-op mode. To me, Portal was such a great single player experience I wish they would have just taken the time in working on their co-op to expand or improve upon the single player aspect. Also, it doesn't help that I don't have very many friends I play co-op games with. :(

Your worries are unfounded man. There are two campaigns in Portal 2, a single player and a coop campaign. Either one separately is longer than Portal 1's campaign, so you won't be disappointed with Portal 2.

I get the feeling that co-op will be anything but to start with, as folks open portals at their partner's feet to drop them into pits, etc. to test their new environment.

i concur. especially since so many of us 'single-players' opted to destroy our companion cubes just to survive.

That's why you play with friends instead of randoms.
