Natural Selection 2 Trailer Shows Beta Gameplay

Following a streak of short teaser trailers for Natural Selection 2, indie developer Unknown Worlds has released a more-conventional trailer for the commercial sequel to its outstanding Half-Life RTS-FPS hybrid mod, showing off the beta build.

If you think this all looks a lark, you can pre-order NS2 for $34.95 to get into the ongoing closed beta. You'll receive a code to activate it on Steam. While the beta is updated frequently, there's still no word on when the final version will be released.

I'm just not sure this will be very popular. It looks like it expects a lot of complicated teamwork between the RTS and the FPS parts. If TF2 pubs have shown anything it's that regular people can barely aim let alone work in a team.

It might be great for competitive gaming, but will that be enough to keep it alive for long?

Unknown Worlds has obviously put a lot of work into this, it'll be a shame if the basic concept just doesn't catch on.

The end result will be epic. So much more playable than the rail-shooters being pumped out of big studios these days. Fun to be part of a true beta as well.

i bought it a few hours ago...seems like fun though most games end up with the alien team zerg rushing marines and spawn raping them if marines don't build up quick enough

The team has definitly made major strides in each release... Becoming more and more well.... Playable, but that's not say for least I glad to be part of the testing of each build and am keeping my fingers crossed they can make it awesome....

The alpha version was completely unplayable online, and so were the first couple of versions of the beta, but the last few builds are very playable at last! It's still a *little* bit choppy at times (net code still needs optimization), but you can actually play a full game now and think about strategy and shooting/killing things rather than simply be able to walk around jerkily and hope you hit something when you fire. Once it's 100% smooth this is gonna be the best multiplayer FPS experience evah! Keep up the good work UWE!
