Dragon Age II's lead designer Mike Laidlaw steps into the limelight in a new trailer with PC gameplay footage to illustrate two different approaches to combat in BioWare's fantasy RPG sequel--one he describes as "action-RPG" and the other "pause and play."

Dragon Age II is slated to launch for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 8, 2011. If you pre-order before January 11, 2011, you'll be upgraded to the BioWare Signature Edition for free, which packs an extra character, in-game items and the soundtrack.

Doesn't look bad at all. Seems you can set up some nice combos. Might not be as complex as the last, but it seems like the flow will be faster. That's a good thing. Too many people hated to micromanage that game.

Really the Micro management need is base on difficulty level. If this sequel is anything like the original then Easy and Medium difficulty will work well with action RPG style. Hard and Insane will be much more tailored to tactical play.

That depends on how you played the original game.

        1) Did you play the unpatched version?
        2) Did you play as a Mage?

If your answer is No to both questions, DAO was a really difficult game on Normal difficulty. Pretty much impossible to beat without thorough micromanagement. The patches nerfed a lot of things and made the game much easier. Mages were overpowered to begin with so if you played as a Mage after the patches, the game was even easier. Try playing through unpatched DAO as a Warrior or Rogue. You'll be in for a much greater challenge.

I played the unpatched version and as a warrior. It wasn't that hard if you had a balanced group.

The only true healer was wrynn and and I had to use her during the last fight because Morrigan leaving my party at the last minute. Still, she only pulled of a few heals

I still don't see how you could get through the game without any micromanagement. I had both Morrigan and Wynne in my group as artillery/healing support, as well as Alistair as the tank. The final battle in the Deep Roads would have been impossible without micromanagement.

Oh, and just to confirm, you played it on the PC, right? The console versions were apparently a lot easier than the PC version.
