Ender's Game Adaptation "Probably Not" Coming Anymore
by Alice O'Connor, Dec 15, 2010 9:20am PSTOrson Scott Card fans may have noticed that Chair Entertainment has been jolly quiet about its video game adaptation of his Ender's Game sci-fi novels since landing the rights back in 2008. This, it turns out, is because it's "probably not" happening anymore.
"We have and had an amazing design for the Ender's Game game," Chair co-founder Donald Mustard told Joystiq. Unfortunately, he explained that "one of Epic's primary objectives is to create original and unique franchises. I don't know that Ender's Game fits into that strategic objective anymore."
"So, probably not," Mustard said of the game coming to fruition. "Not from us."
Chair, developer of Shadow Complex--itself based up another of Card's novels--and Unreal Engine 3-powered iPhone game Infinity Blade, was acquired by Epic Games in May 2008, several months after the Ender's Game announcement.
Should you not be expecting plot details from a quarter-century-old book, whose secrets are widely-discussed, to be in a post related to that book, you might want to stop reading at this sentence. Because: while Epic may not be interested in letting you play a child who is unaware that his games are in fact part of a real war, luckily it's still more than happy to let you play as a manchild who sees war as one jolly big game.
