Insane Revealed as a Trilogy; Guillermo del Toro Acting as External Creative Director

By Xav de Matos, Dec 13, 2010 10:00am PST After being teased for months, director Guillermo del Toro took the stage during the 2010 Spike VGAs to reveal his newest creation: a game with THQ, titled Insane.

Described as a "Lovecraftian" horror title, Insane will be "an original trilogy of triple-A games" from developer Volition, Inc. (Saint's Row 2, Red Faction: Guerrilla), with the Hollywood filmmaker acting as the external creative director on the series.

"With this new series of video games, I want to take players to a place they have never seen before, where every single action makes them question their own senses of morality and reality," del Toro said in a press release this morning.

As the director has self-professed a lifelong love for video games, THQ's Danny Bilson said he hopes del Toro's talents as a "gifted writer and film director" will aid in the creation of a "unique point of view" will help to "create visually stunning adventures, filled with rich and rewarding gameplay."

As part of the collaboration, THQ will retain all intellectual property rights on the Insane video games, while del Toro will hold the rights to any "filmed entertainment products" that come from the series.

THQ has also set up an official site for the game, along with the ability to sign up for a newsletter with future updates on the game. The first chapter in the new THQ property will launch in 2013 for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
