Star Wars Imperial Academy on iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch for Free

4
THQ and mobile developer ngmoco released a free first-person shooter for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch the other day called Star Wars Imperial Academy. It puts players in the shiny white confines of an Imperial stormtrooper suit.

The premise of Star Wars Imperial Academy is a simple one: Darth Vader has enlisted you in his Imperial Academy. Battle it out with other stormtrooper recruits in 4-player deathmatches on your journey to becoming an elite stormtrooper. Hoth, Cloud City, and Tatooine are among the reported locales in which players will use close combat, sniping, and "explosive armaments" to win.

An internet connection is required to play Star Wars Imperial Academy, and we're not sure of the overall quality. But hey, it's free and Star Wars. Grab a free copy from iTunes, if the Force moves you.

Apparently you have to buy keys to upgrade your equipment. Some review said that after level 17 the number of keys you need to unlock stuff goes up. Somebody else said it would be easy to drop $45 on upgrades. Really lame if thats the case, who wants to pay to play some crappy shooter.

I did wonder what the revenue model was, it sucks they took it to extremes here.

Yes, well if you like the game and drop $45 on it because you find it entertaining, then more power to them. Its kinda how all these 'Free to Play' games are designed. Hook em with the initial game, and charge money once you get invested.

This might be a bit hard for you to understand but you could just play it for free until you didn't want to anymore

exactly. 17 levels sounds like plenty of free gameplay. Nothing to complain about.

Also, the title of the story indicates there is an iPad version, but really this is a universal release so you may be wondering when searching the AppStore for the iPad version, FYI.
