Take-Two: No Annual Red Dead Redemption or Grand Theft Auto
by Brian Leahy, Dec 02, 2010 1:00pm PSTTake-Two Chairman Strauss Zelnick, in an interview with Reuters, said that "annualizing" franchises like Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto would threaten their quality and might even burn out consumers.
Zelnick doesn't feel that Activision's strategy with Call of Duty would work for two of Take-Two's most lucrative franchises. Rockstar Games, the studio responsible for both franchises, is owned by Take-Two and is currently working on L.A. Noire and the often delayed Max Payne 3.
Additionally, Take-Two is open to re-negotiating its license with Major League Baseball, which would yield further games in the MLB2K franchise out of 2K Sports. Zelnick calls the current arrangement a "losing proposition and we don't have any interest in pursuing losing propositions."
MLB2K10 failed to crack the top 10 for its release month according to the NPD Group across any of its platforms.
