[Update: 10:10] EA has announced that Vietnam will be released for PC on December 18, followed by Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 releases on December 21. [Original] A colossal patch has been released for the PC and Xbox 360 editions of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, with the 2.4GB PC patch up for download over on FileShack.

The update is "in preparation for Map Pack 7 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam," developer DICE explains, which is why it's so huge in spite of only fixing five bugs. DICE also notes that PC players "might encounter some temporary outages or suffer from lag during the server updates," expected to end by 3am EST tomorrow.

There's still no official confirmation of when either the free VIP Map Pack 7 or $15 Vietnam downloadable expansion will be released, though digital retailer Steam has the Nam flashback listed for release on December 18.

Read on for the PC and Xbox 360 changelogs. Note that the Xbox patch contains far more fixes as many of these have previously been patched into the PC edition. The Playstation 3 edition received a similar patch last week.

PC edition update R10:

  • Fixed an issue where the Bullet Tracers wouldn't display
  • Fixed an issue where Play Now wouldn't work

The patch includes all of the content for Vietnam and Map Pack 7. It is essentially a "pre-load" that also fixes some bugs.
