Microsoft: Over 2.5 Million Kinect Sensors Sold
by Brian Leahy, Nov 29, 2010 5:30pm PSTMicrosoft announced that it has sold over 2.5 million Kinect sensors, bundled or otherwise, to date. Last we heard, Microsoft had sold around one million sensors in the first 10 days of sales.
"We are thrilled about the consumer response to Kinect, and are working hard with our retail and manufacturing partners to expedite production and shipments of Kinect to restock shelves as fast as possible to keep up with demand," said Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. "With sales already exceeding two and a half million units in just 25 days, we are on pace to reach our forecast of 5 million units sold to consumers this holiday."
The sales increase is due to "strong demand over the Black Friday weekend" and these numbers are worldwide. Specific regions were not discussed, though one unofficial report from Japan detailed a possible "rough start" with estimations that Kinect is selling at 25% the rate of PlayStation Move in the country.
