So I get a call from an old friend the other day at his office with some busted email. He works at some hot-shot lawyer place etc. Ted then tells me that his sysadmin at the office who is usually incredible at running their 12pc Win98 network somehow broke everything on the email server. After about 10 minutes of pure amazement at their network configuration I tell Ted to get the guy fired. (The admin actually had the email backup folder for the entire network shared to the world!) I was just too amazed with how a monkey like that got a job to not share. I imagine you guys have even worse stories? This stuff almost never gets old.

  • I'm on the Technology Committee at my son's private school. They want an internet conneciton for the K-8 classrooms, so my suggestion was a DSL/cable connection with a linux-pc router-on-a-floppy to distribute the access without the service provider being able to tell.

So me and my girlfriend (she's a tech too) are going into how this would cost littel more than the basic conection and us wiring the building...and the so-called "admin" of the school network looks me straight in the face and says, with the long I sound in linux...

"You know, they give away the linux for free."

Jessica walked away, and I just nodded and looked at the floor... and had a huge laff at his expense on the way home.

    Thought I'd share

    Monsto

  • ok, i didn'[t see steve asking us to do that stuff.

  • Just because i take an active role in sports rather than sitting on my ass 24/7 playing quake, you've got to get angry? chill, try looking outside your window once and realize there are other things to do besides quake. I'm a heavy gamer, but i've got to get out once in a while..it helps, try it sometime.

    ech, blah..anyway..
    stupid question, expecting stupid answer:
anyone know how to tell what type of motherboard you have cuz i need to buy some more ram, and i have no idea what to buy..that whole simm dimm thing is just boggling me? any of you guys help a brotha out. i'm using win98..is there somewhere i check to find out what type it is? I've got a Pentium Celeron 333MHz w/64 Megs of ram (not sure which)..also, is it written somewhere on the mobo itself that identifies what type it is. ram prices have fallen, so i wanna go out and cop some. can't stand this ghetto shit.
