Shack PSA: Weekend PC Digital Deals on GTA 4, BioShock 2 and Much, Much More

11
It's Friday afternoon, which can only mean it's time to peruse bargains at PC game digital distributors. This week's highlights are a bundle of Grand Theft Auto 4 plus both its downloadable content packs for a paltry $9.95, and BioShock 2 for $9.99 so you're able to play the quite frankly excellent 'Minerva's Den' DLC when it finally comes to PC.

Other offers include a treasure trove of vintage Ubisoft bargains, Beyond Good & Evil for only $4, some Command & Conquer series savings and oh so much more. On top of all that, the first of the Thanksgiving sales have kicked off.

Our choice selection of this week's deals follows below.

I only buy games for Steam anymore. I know this is ridiculous, but it's true. :(

Gog is a good exception to make. I'm waiting for GfWM to get a reputation before I take the plunge there. Impulse isn't bad but it's just no Steam.

That said I'm holding onto my money for the inevitable Steam Thanksgiving sale.

It's not ridiculous. The interface is perfect. The prices are great. Your collection is in one place. Installation could not be easier. Most important of all are the community features. You can see your friends online and what they are playing. It's Xbox Live for the PC expect with more features and better features; no subscription required.

No, sir, the prices are not great. At least not for Europe.

Steam has some added features over XBL, but it also has some removed. (For example, per-person achievements; it's per-copy-sold instead for Steam titles.)

I tend to prefer my games be on steam, but I have no problem giving money to impulse, D2D, or GOG.

That's your basic vendor lock-in. Except, to Steam's credit, it does through being generally good rather than anything else.

GOG is the most painless exception you can afford to make: payment is simple, download is simple, installer is simple, everything to Steam's standard of higher, the only thing missing is the annoying client and tray icon.

This is exactly how it works for me. I prefer Steam, due to the ease-of-use and the fact that it provides a great set of features, and I'll only buy games from other services if the deal is extremely good. GoG is an exception, because they have a different subset of games and they don't use DRM, which keeps the ease-of-use very high as well.

Same for me. Steam and GOG are pretty much the only services I purchase d/l games from. Main pros are ease of use, great value, and lack of (or fairly unintrusive) DRM. With a few exceptionsI know I can d/l games from Steam and GOG onto multiple machines and play them offline if I want.

Yah... I trust them to allow me to re-download content and put it on multiple PCs. The automatic patching can be very convenient as well.

If GFWL is anything like XBLM, then I'm not sure I want to be involved with it.

Same here, I like having all in one spot and I'm just satisfied with the service.

I bought Amnesia on Impulse and it's pretty un-intrusive. I haven't even opened or used Impulse at all since I bought the game.

I'd rather go with impulse. You don't have to launch a client every time you play a game.

And once I've beaten a game, I just take the icon off of my desktop until I feel like playing again. I don't see the point of needing to see a list of all the games on your computer when you're only playing one or two at a time.
