Blizzard Exploring 'Diablo-Related Project' on Consoles

22
Blizzard has announced that it's hiring staff to explore what is described as a "Diablo-related project for consoles," after rumours were sparked by three job listings yesterday that the developer was creating a console port of Diablo 3.

"As we've said in the past," Blizzard explains on the Diablo 3 community site, "with proper care the gameplay could suit the console platform, and we're interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in such a project."

"Please note that this is not an announcement of a console title. We are first and foremost developing Diablo III for Windows and Mac PCs and don't intend to allow any possibility of a console interpretation to delay or affect the release of the game."

While BlizzCon 2010 saw the revelation of Diablo 3's fifth and final class, the Demon Hunter, it didn't bring word on when the action RPG might finally be released. Rats.

aah shut up blizzard. i hate your teasing and talking bs and not delivering for years. "this is not an announcement..." well yes, what is it if not an announcement? teasing like those 50000 diablo screenshots?
consider my post as trolling if you want, but sorry, i'm sick of it.

When a company consistantly delivers as much as Blizzard has, they can talk all they want. Starcraft and Diablo are the best in their genres, and Warcraft changed the entirety of PC gaming.

Good games take time. Feel free to play the trash like FFXIV that gets shit out in 6 months of development.

Blizzard hasn't made a good game since The Frozen Throne.
Their talk doesn't mean shit to me anymore.

Why are you people so angry? Are you guys just being overly sensitive because I have a different taste in games or does the truth really hurt that much?

Even if you don't like WoW or SC2, doesn't mean either game is not worthy of the praise given to it. WoW had a rocky launch, but Blizzard put out a stream of patches and content that turned it into the game it is today.

Starcraft II was very polished at launch, very few bugs and highly balanced in multiplayer, you can't say that for most games that are released today.

They hadn't done shit until Starcraft 2 hit, barely count any expansion to WoW because you can't consider that a full game. It's so comical how people hold Blizzard up in this esteemed light for what, 3 franchises, and two of which getting sequels almost 10 years after the installment.

And one of said franchises was made by a separate part of Blizzard (North) that got disbanded thanks to Vivendi being a dick and hence isn't part of today's Blizzard. (Or a power struggle if you're into conspiracy theories.)

Making an expansion for an MMO like WoW weighs in as much as a single player game.

I agree somewhat. This is just advertising. And its like "Hey here is a great cheese pizza! Do you want it? Only 60 dollar, but its extra good!" "Yeah gimme" "I said do you want this great pizza?" "Yes, please." "You want it?" "Yes, dammit." "WHAT DID YOU SAY? I CAN'T HEAR YOU BUT HERE IS A GREAT PIZZA I'D LOVE TO GIVE YOU" "YES HERE IS MY MONEY GIVE ME ALREADY" "ITS REALLY GREAT HERE HAVE A FEW PICTURES OF IT" "Goddammit when can I have it already?" "Not sure but here, we might make another great version of this pizza that you can get too." "When?" "I'M NOT ANNOUNCING ANYTHING. HERE HAVE AN INTERVIEW ABOUT IT".

Stop messing around please, the game doesn't really need anymore hype without it even having a release FRAME.

It is not an announcement, there is nothing to announce at the moment. It is a statement to control rumors.

There were all sorts of things flying around with people assuming those job postings would mean the delay of the PC version or consolizing it in some way and such. They could either ignore them and let the rumours go wild, or respond to them (and let them go wild, but at least people can point to a link that says something now).

Well, to be fair, they can't really be expected to avoid posting job listings on their homepage just because they are going to spark rumors. It's their best way to reach a large number of applicants, after all.

Yea this isn't an announcement at all and more of people demanding a response from Blizzard after the job postings were listed. They wanted a response, they got one.

This isn't an announcement dumbass. Blizzard is responding, on their community site, to news outlets going through their job posting section.

If you have a problem with this article, blame Shacknews, not Blizzard.

      Yup.

When you're at the top of the game you don't need to deliver until you want to. Everyone will just circle jerk to the idea of you possibly doing something even if it takes a decade to do so (a decade being 10 years).

Blizzard needs to be usurped so they get back on the right track.
