Morning Discussion

I've been playing a lot of Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer on PC and on the Xbox 360 and I find that I'm a lot better on PC. The obvious call would be because aiming and firing is so much smoother on PC with a mouse and keyboard, but I've actually been testing out the PC version with a controller. Still, I'm better on PC. (I'm not great on either platform, but I'm not terrible either.)

I mentioned it briefly in our PC-focused article last week but I think that the clarity afforded by the better graphics are definitely a factor in my play. I can spot enemies a lot better on PC whereas they looked washed out on console--even though I'm using the same 1080p monitor for both versions.

I tend to get pretty addicted to the multiplayer components of games as soon as they come out but stop playing them entirely a week or two post-launch: Halo Reach, Medal of Honor, and Modern Warfare 2 suffered the same fate when I got them.

We'll have to see if I return to the game this week. I wonder if playing it in 3D would change the experience?

    How was everyone's weekend?

Myself I got some gaming in, including some TF2 time, celebrated a friend's birthday, cleaned my car, and prepared for my trip to Nashville next weekend!

Did you know that Nashville got it's name from the fact that Steve Nash was conceived there?

Sweet weekend, played lots of Torchlight, watched crappy sci-fi, dinner and boardgames with friends, woke up early Saturday morning and watched the awesome GSL finals.

Saturday I ran Blades for Daggerdale for a group of 6; my rolls pretty much sucked and they destroyed every single encounter. In the 2nd one, someone had a skill power that let him make a History check in place of initiative and then share that result with the entire party. Fucker rolled a 27 (highest monster init was a 26) and they nuked 5/8 minions and bloodied the brute in the first round. I guess I can take solace in the fact that they failed the skill challenge and lossed 150 XP.

I got to play The Prospect in the afternoon with my 1st-level avenger. The table was 1/1/1/3/3/4 and we went high (of course!); the last fight was an elite and a bunch of traps. Despite being an idiot and not thinking to use Abjure Undead (on a ghost duh!) I think I only missed once. It was insubstantial (you know...being a ghost) and had 2 separate self-healing powers; by the time we killed it we'd done ~350 points of damage to it. It was a fun encounter, though, tricky and ultimately satisfying, not wretched and miserable like the MYRE where we started the mod facing off against an insubstantial T-Rex while also suffering a disease that caused -2 to attack rolls.

Spent more time modding FNV than playing. Again. I'm getting damn slick with the modding tools though.

Busy but good. Helped a friend insulate his garage on Saturday, then went downtown with the guys to watch the VT/UNC game, then our families met up for pizza afterwards. Sunday we had some other kids over for a play date, then I played ME2.

Fantastic! I ran a 10K on Saturday and PR'd by a couple of minutes, which was a pleasant surprise. Watched Michigan football until I couldn't take it anymore and then went shopping.

I finished unpacking and hanging up wall decorations in my new house (after 2 months)

This is actually a really big deal because our last house we were in for 5 years and most of that stuff sat in boxes the whole time.

Great! Ate a two pound steak which was incredibly delicious and put me in total food coma all of Sunday. Avoided the queue and strict door policy (no sneakers, no jeans) at a fancy club by being invited as a VIP on Saturday night. Went to the zoo and caught the marine animals show where I saw a seal dancing to reggaeton. And had the best Vietnamese food ever - a perfect balance of flavors, exquisite taste, definitely the best meal I've had in months.

Dominated Lara Croft: GoL with tsuba. That game is all kinds of awesome! Much fun coop with great level design. Going back for the reward challenges missed the first time is great fun.

Need a sequel to it for next year. I want all my XBLA games to be this caliber.

Not too bad. Rented my CD Decks/Mixer to to a promoter for a "rave", and when I showed up another DJ was having problems with his Serrato setup, so I ended up playing a 2 hour set. It was unexpected and super fun.

(and also reminded me why I don't play Serrato)
