Romero's Next Game

A new Ion Storm Daily Informant is up and has word from John Romero on his next game. As many of you probably recall a story ran a story a little while ago (and followup) with some quotes from John. Here is his reply:

"I definitely did not confirm in any way what my next game will be like. Every game I've developed over the last couple decades has been based in some way on the previous game I developed because I always use my last game as a baseline for design features on the next one. The fact that I enjoy playing through a game with sidekicks could mean that I will have sidekicks, in some form, in my next game... possibly. At this point, the design of my next title is not solid enough to give out *any* information on, nor will I be divulging information about it until it's time.

  • OMG, a few of us have to play devil's advocate.

The Romero actually made a game, have you? He has phat skills and you're just jealous. I order my copy of Daikatana 6 months ago, and i'm actually gonna try to play through it.

Let's see, he worked on Quake, and while his code isn't quite as tight as the Carmack's brilliant C, it's there, he helped work on one of the most legendary titles to ever hit the PC. So, he's not at id software anymore, unless your name is Carmack, you don't want to spend forever at the greatest game house in the universe, you gotta move on.

If you're over 8, you may remember what came before Quake, let's see, what was that called, oh yea, DOOM II! Well, who wrote DoomEd, hmmm...that would be THE ROMERO. and who hand designed some of the toughest freaking levels ever with DoomEd, gee, again THE ROMERO. And What was before Doom? Wolf3D, again he contributed to that. And before that, like 12 dozen Apple II titles he cranked out in assembly language. Jeez, the guy is skilled, give him some credit, and cut him some slack (if any more slack is possible).

So yeah, Daikatana kicks ass, in comparison to anything i've ever made with a computer and that probably goes for you also. And while I'm at it, SiN rocks! 8)

I predict 2.5 years for his next title, and it will kick much ass.

  • The Romero's next game - It will be a FPS of a computer programmer gone mad. You play as "John Romero", he runs around whacking people who didn't like his previous game with a mouse or keyboard (or the big weaon, the 21" monitor of death). You have a woman sidekick who, upon your command, gets a breast implant and has sex with you. The game slowly loses texture and map cohesion as you slowly progress though, and the monsters (those horribly nay sayers) will slowly devolve from beautifully crafted skins to wire frame models. The last map will give you a few errors before crashing your whole computer entirely.

I'm looking forward to this new game, it'll be out in stores in around 6 years.
