Evening Reading
by Brian Leahy, Nov 02, 2010 5:00pm PDTSo the real guitar for Rock Band 3 isn't going to be out until March 1, 2011, which is a really long time after the game's release. I'm curious how people will rush out to get the MadCatz controller, which is certainly capable of handling Pro Mode, but isn't a real guitar.
Furthermore, will people that can't wait and snag the MadCatz controller be upgrading to the real deal in a few months? Time will tell!

Favorite sci-fi writers, current ranking:
1. Alistair Reynolds - best writer of the decade. so prolific too.
2. Vernor Vinge (he needs to write more stuff )
3. Iain M Banks
4. Richard K. Morgan (although apparently he writes homoerotic fantasy now?)
5. Greg Bear
special mention for Larry Niven and William Gibson though their stuff feels terribly dated and 80s now.

2) Glen Cook. "Passage at Arms" is amazing, and while not really sci-fi, "The Black Company" is perhaps the finest series of fiction put to print.
3) Niven & Pournelle. They had good stuff apart - I like Ringworld as much as anyone - but together they were a far better writer than they could be apart. The best example is "The Mote in God's Eye."
4) Stephenson. Snow Crash, Young Lady's Primer are great, and though it's also not sci-fi, the Baroque Cycle is a must-read.
5) Asimov, in his early days. The Foundation trilogy alone earns him a spt on any list like this, as well as the early robot books.
