Rock Band 3: Importing Tracks from Rock Band 2 Explained

14
Like the original Rock Band allowed players to export tracks into its sequel, Rock Band 3 will give players the opportunity to import almost all of their Rock Band 2 tracks into the latest game in the series.

The process, as described by RockBandAide as a 1.93GB track pack download, first requires Rock Band 3 owners to pay a $10 fee to take advantage of the feature, coupled with the code from the back of the Rock Band 2 instruction manual. To redeem the code, select "Get More Songs" from the Rock Band 3 menu and choose the "Redeem Code" option.

Unfortunately, the process won't bring every track into Rock Band 3. The five tracks that will not shift into Harmonix' latest are:

  • "Let There Be Rock" by AC/DC
  • "Any Way You Want It" by Journey
  • "Battery" by Metallica
  • "Give It Away" by Red Hot Chili Peppers
  • "Spoonman" by Soundgarden

According to RockBandAide, nine tracks from Harmonix staff bands have also been ditched during the process, but the site reports they'll return as free DLC in the future. Tracks from the original Rock Band export feature will also be available in Rock Band 3.

Joystiq reports that the process for PS3 and Wii users will be explained once RockBand.com has re-opened. PS3 users will have to wait until the PlayStation Network updated today in order for the process to work correctly.

Harmonix recommends, via Twitter, that gamers who have burned their manual in an attempt to be "metal" can contact EA's Rock Band support page for a new code. [Ed. Note: Link Updated, Search "Rock Band 2" for support]

Will this also bring over your rock band 1 tracks if you imported those into rb2?

Unfortunately what we're hearing is Black Hole Sun and Dani California won't work with RB3, likely for the same reason Spoonman and Give It Away can't be exported from RB2 which is a real shame, as a dummer I loved BHS and Dani.

        No it's not Xav.

The only mention I see of RB1 songs the import comparison in the first sentence.

"Tracks from the original Rock Band export feature will also be available in Rock Band 3."
