Over 1 Million PlayStation Moves Shipped Across North America in First 30 Days

Sony revealed via press release that it shipped over 1 million units of its new Move motion controller for the PlayStation 3 in the first 30 days following its September 17 launch. Sony's Jack Tretton, CEO of SCEA, celebrated the mark, saying:
PlayStation Move is the most recent example of how product innovation continues to provide our customers with new and exciting ways to enjoy our technology. We've shipped over one million units in the first month in North and Latin America. Retail demand is incredibly strong and we're working hard to keep the product in stock. We believe consumers have already shown their preference for a precise, interactive game experience. We are on target to meet our end of year goals and expect sales to increase as our publishers and developers continue to update popular titles and introduce new games.

John Koller, head of marketing for the PlayStation division, also told our friend Chris Morris over on the Technotainment blog, "We're seeing a lot of adoption from consumers. Move is out of stock at a lot of locations and we're working vigorously to get in a better supply position...We look at retail out of stocks as a good sign of where the market is."

Combined with the approximately 1.5 million Moves sold across Europe, Sony now owns a nice little beachhead in advance of the arrival of Microsoft's Kinect system for the Xbox 360 on November 4. It remains to be seen whether either company's entries in the motion-control arena can rival the success of Nintendo's Wii.
