10 New AMD CPUs
by Steve Gibson, May 18, 2000 3:34pm PDTIt looks like good news for everyone out there using a CPU. (Yeah, you) AMD is planning to launch 10 new cpus as early as June 5th. They will be launching the Duron (as noted earlier) in 600 to 700mhz versions, as well as the new Thunderbird CPU sporting 700mhz to 1GHz range. The Thunderbird has been speculated as being about 20-25% faster than the current Athlon chips. Here is part of the reason why: (Thanks AMDZone)
Thunderbird also marks an important milestone for AMD, as the company will begin shipping versions of the chip based on its 0.18-micron copper process from its Dresden, Germany, processor fabrication plant.

One person just feels the urge to tell everyone that the Thunderbird has ondie cache so it runs at CPU speed.
Others love to tell us that they bought a new computer and what they used to have. The best part about this is no one asked them. Just random information from people for no reason at all. I love it
Thanks!

"It's getting very close to Duron/Thunderbird time, and AMD is going to get a nice boost to the Athlon's ego as the performance throne will once again shift over into AMD's arena. Between the Athlon (Thunderbird), Athlon (K75) and Duron, it is going to be very difficult to recommend the Pentium III and/or Celeron over the next few months. Intel's only hope between now and the release of the Willamette is that the Pentium III and Celeron parts are priced lower than their TBird/Duron counterparts or that the Thunderbird has motherboard/platform issues; the latter doesn't seem likely since the design is relatively similar to the current Athlon design with a few exceptions regarding timings."
The NDA isn't up yet but the hints sure sound good!

It's kind of funny actually, when I sucked worse at Quake3, I didn't notice how hard it is to aim at an opponent when my FPS are lagging into the 20's and 30's.
Ah well. I'll grab a 750 or 800 Thunderbird and another 128MB of PC133 and see how hard I can push this TNT2Ultra. If that doesn't make the FPS stutter go away, I'll get a GeForce DDR and put the TNT2 in my new server so I can do lan games when friends come over.
ARGH it dosent go to the archive anymore!
