Evening Reading

Here comes the Fall games onslaught. Is your wallet ready? Last night I dove into DJ Hero 2 (360) and Fallout: New Vegas (PC) and I'm definitely enjoying both games.

With DJ Hero 2, the mixes are great and the new gameplay mechanics really help vary the tracks. The freestyle sections are also great and a good replacement for the "Yeaaaaaaah Boy!" Flava Flav sample of DJ Hero, though I do miss it from time to time. The singing, however, is a vestigial addition. Much like the awful guitar support in the first game, the singing is likely a forced addition so people that are scared of that weird controller have something to do. Turns out singing along to a mix of two completely different songs, while a DJ scratches, mixes, and rewinds creates a slightly schizophrenic experience for the singer.

I haven't put too much time into New Vegas yet, just barely eclipsing my progress at QuakeCon, but I'm really enjoying it so far. Thus far, the quests are suitably long and non-linear, while the addition of ironsights really helps it feel like a more competent shooter than Fallout 3. Also, the PC version looks great, but I am upset that at least the DLC pack will (likely) be a timed exclusive on the Xbox 360.
