Morning Discussion

I keep thinking about that PC I've been meaning to build. I was all set on a certain rig and then changed my mind. AMD Phenom II X6 turned into the Intel i7 950. The Crosshair Formula motherboard is now a Rampage III Formula--or maybe the extreme. (Suggestions?)

I'm not great at making my mind up about these things. What I do know for sure is that I need to pull the trigger soon. My current PC is a nightmare and I'm missing out on a lot of recently released or purchased PC titles.

Over the last few days, though, my concentration has been focused elsewhere. Since Monday, I've been in the beautiful city of Montreal for work. This afternoon, that all comes to an end, as I'm meant to fly back to Toronto.

So, now that there's room in my head to dream about that fancy new gaming rig, I know what I'll be thinking about during my 50 (or so) minute flight home.

Bad timing on that release. I know its Halloween themed but with all the big games out now, I just don't have time.

6-8h has been established for full price games since Max Payne, I think it's perfectly fine for a $15 / euro game.

most times you can buy the game within the demo and continue with your progress and achievements so might as well grab the demo first just in case. the only times that i instabought a game before the demo have been regretful Limbo

nope it's a single player RPG similar to Mario and Luigi RPGs and Penny Arcade games. I don't see how coop would fit in there (even though everyone seems to think coop should be in every game, ever)

It's awesome. I love the feel, how they make you feel like a kid at Halloween is pretty awesome. The game itself is pretty easy at this point, but that's not really the point (to me, anyway). I'm having a lot of fun, and the game leaves a smile on my face at all times.

Also the metaphors are awesome. costumes give you powers and exploring abilities, while candy is the currency (trading candy with other kids) and stuff like that. I really like all of it, can't wait to play more. The only thing missing would be voiceovers, but with that budget game, i understand why it's not there.

is there any replayability? or is it similar to death spank which was crazy fun the first time but once I played through it I literaly had seen and done anything possible.

(mind you, I'll probably get it anyway)

i'd say it's probably not replayable. I haven't seen too much branching at this point. (I don't really care about that tbh :) )

I mean more in the rpg system itself. story branching doesn't do much for me usually. but a solid rpg system with enough depth can make me start over and over, either for min/maxing or different class combinations etc etc

oh well there are costumes which boost attributes and give combat actions and such, like the knight has defensive abilities, the statue of liberty heals the party, etc, and there's a system close to paper mario's badge system where you equip a thing to give you a single bonus on something. it's pretty cool really.

I am in love with the idea of Double Fine games, but the execution is...

Psychonauts Yeah yeah, the Milkman level was brilliant. It was also terribly confusing. I spent so much time backtracking, getting lost, and trying to find the houses I hadn't entered. And, you know, Meat Carnival.

I was hesitant about Brutal Legend, so I played the demo. EPIC! And then the rest of the game was a straight shot downhill. The actual arena battles were just terrible.

I want more independant, creative, interesting games, but I almost want them to be written by someone else.

Even though I finally started my Fallout 3 GOTY run after getting all the mods together, I think I'll put that on hold and blow through this. I'm too sick right to really put any effort into an epic game anyway. Something simple like this should perfect.
