TF2 With New Engine

Cold-Ice has an interview with Gabe Newell of Valve on TF2 that's pretty standard, untill the last question in which Gabe mentions Team Fortress 2 will ship with a new engine instead of a reworked Quake2 engine.

5. Has the graphics scaling (detailed up close, bland from far away, for smoothness) just been implemented into a much overhauled Quake 2 engine, or did you design a new engine from the ground-up, or from a different game?

TF 2 will ship with a new engine.
This is the first time I've seen that mentioned (although Gabe could be mentioning new Q2 engine features and not the ones used in Half-Life plus new ones, it's kinda sketchy), but as it's only 8am in the Pacific time zone I can't get it confirmed right now but hopefully in an hour or two we'll see some more on this.

  • hey, I got Ground Control cd for free from E3, haven't got a chance to install it. I played it on the show though. Seemed like fun (great texture work when you zoom in)...
hey, and i saw Tom Cruise and John Woo (the father of double-guns style)today on the preimere on M: I-2 in Hollywood...
and, last sunday in Magic Mountains, i was standing in the line to that new green rollercoaster (Riddle: The Revenge) of something and right behind me was standing that blond dude from Road Trip (he has that scene with a nurse in the trailer), he was with two chicks (sisters?) and he was all over them...
    well, who is next? president?...

it doesn't mean anything, just wanted to type something, until my parents leave the room, so i could start clicking on those porn links in "Testing The Thingie" headline...

    Thanks!
