Evening Reading

Oh, hey. Yeah, this "Evening Reading" thing isn't my usual gig, but I thought I'd jump in and see what's what. Garnett is out for the podcast. Brian is out sick. I'm going a little out of my mind. So, it's a good time to get a conversation going.

I've recently started buying pieces of my "gaming rig of the future." The rig itself being built in the future, not necessarily from the future. Although, that would be awesome. But it'll get really old when the computer disappears into another time every time I type the numbers "88." Oh, and by the way, "Go Leafs Go!"

I make good use of outlook's "unread mail" (all mail read? Hit F5 and the folder is magically empty) and "for follow-up" special folders, but other than that my inbox is full of everything

I try hard to keep my inbox minimal; otherwise it's too easy to forget to respond to people, and then you're cleaning things out 3 months later and you realize you're a jackass. I hate that feeling. So I try to keep it very low, and I use GMail's Priority Inbox so that I can put Stars on messages that need attention/replies.

I usually try to maintain it. I have a folder for archived mail, and one called follow up for mail that I need to respond to, but requires more than 5 minutes of effort. Anything in the inbox that doesn't get moved to the follow up folder, I'll respond to immediately and archive.

At work I get far too much email every day to have a chance at that.

At home I don't get enough interesting email from people I care about to move it all elsewhere.

I have category zero at work, it's awesome. I use Outlooks color categories, with about 4 categories, "not important" = delete, "I need to do something", "Delegated", "Done" and one "Need to be able to find again" for information and links and stuff.

Yep, I read stuff on my personal and work accounts when it comes in and then archive it to the relevant folder. Messy inboxes drive me nuts.

I never delete email, storage is so cheap now. Is inbox zero some sort of movement? It sounds catchy...
