Dragon Age 2 Pre-Order-Exclusive 'BioWare Signature Edition' Offers $20 of DLC for Free

Pre-order Dragon Age 2 and you'll receive the 'BioWare Signature Edition' for free, with an estimated $20 of content including in-game goodies, developer BioWare has announced.

Available exclusively by pre-ordering, the fancy edition of BioWare's fantasy RPG sequel packs a download code for an extra playable character and new missions, the digital soundtrack, and "an exclusive in-game digital armory featuring a variety of weapons and other digital items."

BioWare has previously offered $15 of free downloadable content with new copies of Dragon Age: Origins as well as a hefty chunk of free DLC for new copies of Mass Effect 2 via its 'Cerberus Network', hoping to dissuade players from buying pre-owned games. It seems that pushing pre-orders may be the next step for the program which publisher Electronic Arts refers to as 'Project $10.'

"Over the past 15 years, we've been privileged to have the support of a passionate community of fans, who continue to grow in number with every game we release," said BioWare co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka said in the announcement. "The BioWare Signature Edition of Dragon Age II is a chance for us to reward loyal fans who pre-order the game by providing them with additional high-quality content for free."

Dragon Age 2 is slated for release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 8, 2011. However, the BioWare Signature Edition will only be available until January 11, 2011. After then, you'll only get plain old Dragon Age 2.

"...an estimated $20 of content..." Ah, the stuff that will be cut from the game to be made into DLC, for free. Its like you are getting an almost complete game or something, crazy!

^ Thats why I never pay for DLC. Always go to demonoid for that.

Actually I take that back. I've bought one DLC in my life. And that was the recently released "Shadow Broker" DLC for my legit owned Mass Effect 2. And only then it's because it really is amazing, new, and not apart of the main story line of ME2, but added to set up the story for ME3.

The "Shadow Broker" DLC is DLC at its worst. BioWare knew this would be a massive selling DLC as it featured Liara, a beloved character from a ME1 and the Shadow Broker, who was a prominent, mysterious character in ME1 also. To bring up the Liara and Shadow Broker story in ME2 but not finish it in the main ME2 games reeks of "Lets chop this out for DLC cause it will make big $" to me. Thanks BioWare, I now know that I should wait for your Game of the Year editions to get the complete game.

Your righteous crusade against DLC doesn't give you any right to go and pirate it. No matter how much you believe that part of the game was cut to create a piece of DLC (and no matter what, if any, evidence there is to support that), that still doesn't give you the right to go and pirate it.

It's doubtful that you care, but you really aren't helping the gaming scene any by doing so.

lol, and stealing money from people by taking content out from the game and then sell it as DLC is healping?

hahaha WHAT ???? so the company that is making the game is now stealing???? the piracy arguments have gone full retard !!!!!!!!!!!

ACTUALLY NO IT'S YOU WHO ARE STEALING, FUCKWIT, CAUSING THEM TO DO THESE BUNDLES... AT ALL

pretty fucking lame how the chronology is completely forgotten. pirates cause these folks to change their release mechanisms and bundles. but oh wait, they are now stealing from us as well.

holy fucking shit now I've read everything

While I certainly lean away from going to pirate the DLC. I disagree with piracy being the cause of this DLC and believe you have your chronology confused.

DLC really came center stage with the release of the alternate horse armors and such from Bethsoft. And back then many people took it as a bad omen of things to come. Instead of putting forth a full effort and producing a full game, gamers were worried that what should have been in a game would be released later as DLC. It's starting to look like this prophesy is being fufilled as more and more DLC appears to be peices of the game that were originally meant to be part of the original release.

Also, the reason these new sale bundles are being done is to counter the resale of games which is perfectly legal under first sale doctrine.
