'Action Strategy' Anomaly: Warzone Earth Announced

2
Fledging indie developer 11 bit studios has unveiled its debut game Anomaly: Warzone Earth, an "action strategy" title which sounds a bit like the opposite of a tower defense.

With "massive mechanical war machines" appearing across Earth in 2018, players must plot routes for their squad through the turret-y structures, also getting to take part themselves as an "on-field commander" with special abilities.

New upgrades and units will unlock as players progress to customise their squad. As well as the singleplayer campaign, two challenge modes will also be on offer.

"Anomaly presents an engaging mix of strategy and action that we're confident will appeal to both hardcore gamers and more casual players," managing director Grzegorz Miechowski explained in the announcement. "Players don't just command the convoy; they're right there on the ground, walking alongside the units and assisting them in battle. By balancing the overall mission strategy with more personal involvement, Anomaly will keep players engaged, and more importantly, entertained."

While this is 11 bit's debut title, the developer notes that its team "has produced games for major companies including Ubisoft, Atari, Interplay and Monolith."

Anomaly: Warzone Earth is due out on PC, iPhone and iPad in the first quarter of 2011.

Nice little game, I dig the visuals. They just need to work on the replayability aspect and making a really hardcore challenge mode, other than only a mode for casual players.

Some of the staff worked on Gorky 17 before...

And why the press yellow Y button? Isn't that from the Xbox 360 controller?

@taczbr - the challenge modes are actually for hardcore gamers. Regarding Y button - yes, it is. Nothing more to announce on that matter yet :)
