Testing The Thingie

by Steve Gibson, May 17, 2000 9:59pm PDT

I'm currently tweaking the new threading system, if you're especially bored check this out. Basic functionality is in there, there is a list of about 20 html tweaks to be made but we're just trying to make sure it doesnt blow up. The new threading system is a compiled C library with a built in PHP interpreter. We're still using a perl script to add new comments (to be replaced soon). Basically, please post random stuff about hot chicks etc in this thread. We're pretty sure the threading code can handle the beating, just not sure if SQL can hang or not. The only real new feature in this build is that when a message gets replied to it pops up to the top of the list. (Like most messageboards). View all replies, and other view options will be in the '2nd edition'.

  • Steve, a couple of suggestions-

    1. Make the replies the same font as the posts. If you're using verdana (which you should) on the posts, don't go back to times on the replies.

    2. Change the page title to "Shugashack Cool Threaded View" or whatever.

    3. Have the person's name in the reply come before their comment, like it did before.

    4. Have the replies appear in the same gray "box" as the original comment, it looks more continuous that way, and the replies don't stand out more than the actual posts (they do on a black background, not good).

    5. Bold the usernames in the replies.
