League of Legends Scores Big in Inaugural Game Developers Choice Online Awards
by Alice O'Connor, Oct 08, 2010 2:23pm PDTRiot Games' League of Legends was the star of the first Games Developers Choice Online Awards last night, coming away with five of the nine awards, which were established to reward "innovation and excellence in the art of making online games."
LoL scooped awards in categories from 'Best Online Game Design' to 'Best Online Technology.' Other winners included EVE Online for 'Best Live Game,' MMO juggernaut World of Warcraft for its customer service and NCSoft's Aion for sound.
Except for the Audience Award, which was decided by members of games industry website Gamasutra, the winners were chosen by a 400-strong body of online games industry professionals. The list of winners follows below.

- Best Online Visual Arts - League of Legends (Riot Games)
- Best Community Relations - World of WarCraft (Blizzard)
- Best Online Technology - League of Legends (Riot Games)
- Best Social Network Game - Social City (Playdom)
- Best Audio for an Online Game - Aion (NCSoft)
- Best New Online Game - League of Legends (Riot Games)
- Best Live Game - EVE Online (CCP)
- Audience Award - League of Legends (Riot Games)
As was revealed when the nominations were announced, Ultima Online was inducted into the GDC Online Awards Hall of Fame while Richard Bartle, co-writer of MUD (the original one) and MMO theorist, was awarded the Online Game Legend Award.

How could they win this all they have done is reskin DOTA at best.

This has to be a joke it looks bad hell most games form 1998 look better by alot.

lol this has to be a joke like the visual arts tec wise i can only think of some thing like EVE.

Its not that new and there are many other better games.
Audience Award
Well i guess you can bribe enough players to mass vote for this.
Over all i some how think the t Games Developers Choice Online Awards are nothing worth winning i mean LOL winning any thing shows there must of been some mighty pay off or there taste in games is so bad you can not trust them.

*Heroes of Newerth was released before it, and is a more solid game with regular updates
