Minecraft Halloween Update Detailed

18
Minecraft will be getting a Halloween themed update on October 31, according to a blog post by developer Notch.

The feature list is written "in character" for the Halloween update, players should expect a new realm for fast travel, new monsters, torches that burn out, fishing, multiplayer features, and more.

In company news, Notch continues to make progress in setting up his company and the group has interviewed two artists, spoke with lawyers about paperwork, and failed to get an office. Such is the high-flying life of indie game development.

I wonder what the recipe is for lanterns.

they don't disappear, you can relight them. Plus, you can make lanterns, which will hopefully light the area around you if you have at least one in inventory as well as being placeable .

YES! hopefully having a lantern in your hand will light up your surroundings, or at least if you carry it. I'm sick of placing torches just to see where I'm going in a cave.

I'm ok with torches that burn out, provided I can spend a little bit more effort to make a shit ton of lanterns.

Torches are great because you don't even need a table and you'll find the ingredients anywhere. so lanterns requiring a crafting table makes sense. Hopefully they don't require iron, although unfortunately that would make sense. Wood coal and glass sounds like an ok recipe for lanterns.

Hopefully torches last a few hours, not a few min.

Hopefully needing a flint to relight torches does not reintroduce fire to servers that turned it off.

I heard a rumor that the update will turn all of your existing torches into lanterns so you don't need to go replace them all right away. Not sure if there is any truth to that.
