Gears of War 3 Delayed Until Fall 2011
by Xav de Matos, Oct 01, 2010 6:00am PDTPower down those chainsaw bayonets, folks, we have some bad news. Although its original release date was promised on national television, Microsoft has "elected" to delay Gears of War 3 until the 2011 holiday season.
"Gears of War 3 promises to be the biggest entertainment launch of 2011. The teams at Microsoft Game Studios and Epic Games have done great work thus far readying the title for release in the Spring of 2011," a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement early this morning. "However, we've elected to move the launch of Gears of War 3 until Fall 2011 to make it the marquee title for the holiday season."
Developed by Epic Games, Gears of War 3 was originally scheduled to launch on April 5, 2011. Mid-2011 has quickly become the "go-to" delay time frame for developers and publishers, crowding Microsoft's planned Gears of War 3 release window.
Regardless of when it lands in stores--as the Xbox 360's second biggest exclusive franchise--the continuation of the Marcus/Dom/Locust "love triangle" is sure to fly off shelves. We just wanted it flying at us sooner rather than later.

That would be an improvement. GOOD CALL EPIC!
Oh and DON'T add Kinect support.

Last Halo by Bungie, last Gears of War, Alan Wake fizzled, Crackdown 2 destroyed the Crackdown franchise that could have been, Fable's meh after the disappointment that was Fable 2, driving Forza with your hands now that they've removed the steering wheel from retailers, and Peter Molyneux is fast becoming the PR spokesman that rarely delivers what he promises. (Bye, Milo. Sad we never got to know ya!)
Then again, MS has Kinect. Who needs games like those that sold all those 360's when you got a webcam that can't game while you're sitting? In Kinect MS trusts.
I think Sony's strategy of having Move bolster the games people bought the console for, being entirely optional, and allowing for cheaper Move-based games for those who want Move-only experiences is the smartest. Also, the "Buy as you need it," piecemeal plan is a page right out of MS's "Buy the proprietary HD later, buy the battery pack later, buy Live later, buy the proprietary memory card later" playbook that made the 360 appear cheaper than the PS3.
It'll be interesting to see how everything plays out.

Of course, moving gears away from the battle-to-be between COD and MOH probably could be a good thing for Epic in the long run.
