Playing with the new Xbox 360 dashboard last night, we discovered the addition of Netflix to the Canadian Video Marketplace. In testing, the application performed as well as the service has in our experience on PC and the PS3.
Unfortunately, the application does not have any support for an "Instant Watch Queue," as the feature is completely omitted from the Canadian version of the service. The Canadian Xbox 360 application does support searching, an addition also making its debut to U.S. Netflix customers in the upcoming update.
Netflix originally launched in Canada on September 22, with support for the Nintendo Wii (via disc) and the PlayStation 3 (via native application), among other connected devices and computers. An Xbox 360 version of the streaming-only service was said to be coming "later this fall." Our initial speculation was that Microsoft first needed to update the Canadian dashboard to include the Netflix executable. Whether this was the only hurdle or not, it appears that the upcoming update will bring, among other things, Netflix to Canadians.
Microsoft has yet to detail a launch date for the new dashboard update for all Xbox 360 users. It is expected prior to the November 4 launch of the Kinect peripheral.
Yeah I'm using the first free month for a Mad Men marathon but I think after that I'll put my account on hold.
I couldn't agree more. I signed up to check out the Canadian Netflix and the selection is abysmal.
why do you need TV shows other than Mad Men
