Minecraft is Making a Lot of Money
by Brian Leahy, Sep 28, 2010 5:30pm PDTMinecraft, that indie-game that people are making computers in, is making a lot of money for creator Markus "notch" Persson and his three co-workers. A page has been setup to track and visualize Minecraft registrations and sales taken from the official Minecraft site (via Joystiq).
The day following the unplanned free-to-play weekend brought on by server troubles, which took down the purchasing process, saw sales of 25,936 copies and 48,800 registrations. In the last week, the game has sold over 80,000 copies. At around $13 a copy, this amounts to around $1.1 million in the last seven days.
It doesn't hurt that Penny Arcade mentioned and created two comics about the game, as well. Congratulations on the success, Persson. Good luck with the company. I'm pretty sure Valve will buy it at some point.

It's nice of Penny Arcade to mention this. I reckon they would have had at least 3 more cartoons if they could have played it comfortably on their 360s.

Publishers like Valve should audition ideas and give people the resources to make their works come to life. They could even set it up as a stepped process with further funding available. As it stands right now game development is a chicken and the egg thing and publishers seem to be more enthralled on betting on someone who will make a shitty game then on someone with a good idea, but no name for themselves.
how about posting news about the secret friday update in Minecraft, like you did with Team Fortress 2 Updates? There's gotta be at least 150.00 to 200.000+ minecrafters out there and just look on the amount of comments on this news!
People will appreciate the coverage, right?

If I were him, I'd probably just work on indie games by myself for the rest of my life without having to worry about bosses, employees or anything.
But hey, if we get more great games out of it, who'm I to judge?
