Sonic's long-awaited return to his side-on platforming roots is finally almost nigh as Sega's delayed Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 is now due in October.

IGN reports that the downloadable platformer will be priced at $15 (1200 Microsoft Points, 1500 Wii Points), zipping onto Wii on October 11 before bouncing onto the PlayStation Network on October 12 then rolling into the Xbox Love Arcade on October 13. Sega has yet to reveal the price for the iPhone edition, which is due out on October 7.

Sonic 4 is co-developed by Sonic Team and Sonic Rush dev Dimps. To see it in motion, watch this recent trailer showcasing the ubiquitous casino zone, Casino Streets.

i was under the impression it had 3 worlds with 3 levels each. so 9 levels total.

being under this impression has lead me to feel like not picking it up until they bundle all episodes together with a price that resembles a 2D sonic game.
