PC gamers will get to sample Medal of Honor's multiplayer in a four-ish-day open beta period starting on October 4, which publisher EA also hopes will help clear up some of the controversy surrounding the Afghanistan War shooter's Taliban playable multiplayer faction.

The open "beta"--whatever that means in these situations--will begin on October 4 and run until 11:59pm PST on October 7. The maps Kunar Base and Shahikot Mountains will be available to play, "inspired by real-world locations" and offering the 'Sector Control' and 'Combat Mission' modes respectively.

Addressing the upset that has seen MoH pulled from GameStop stores on US military bases, EA Games Label president said "We also hope that by offering the Multiplayer Open Beta, we can clear up any misunderstanding about the patriotism and respect that are the foundation of this game. The Medal of Honor franchise has always shown extraordinary reverence for American and Allied soldiers--this game is no exception."

With singleplayer by Danger Close--formerly EA Los Angeles--and multiplayer by DICE, Medal of Honor is due out for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 12. EA has also sent over a new trailer featuring the 'Objective Raid' multiplayer mode.

I don't think it will clear up any understanding at all. Anyone who already had a brain already knew that playing the taliban in MP is about as meaningful as seeing a fly on the wall.

It's just a name and a face for the other side.

You don't see these assholes bitching about being Russians and killing American soldiers. And why not. We may not be in a current war with them but we very well could be in the next 30 years, and almost exchanged nukes with them only twenty-five years ago. I'm surprised that they don't consider it "encouraging peace time animosity and reigniting the red scare", or whatever other bullshit words you can come up with to describe it.

Buncha hypocrite 75 year old guys if you ask me.

The only ones who have any "misunderstanding" on this are folks that don't play games or limit themselves to Farmville. By continuing to drum this up, it smells of nothing more than a publicity stunt.

Since it sorta is in bad taste, and nobody is actually psyched that 'I get to play teh taliban wooooo!', it just seems like a mistake.
