Morning Discussion

First impressions of Netflix Canada: It's a good start.

The service could use a fresh batch of content as the initial library is seriously lacking compared to the American store--although, there are licensing reasons for that. Netflix in Canada also desperately needs account queues. As it stands, you can only watch one piece of content at a time and can't create a list of items you want to see in the future.

The lack of Xbox 360 is annoying, but understandable. Microsoft is about to roll out a major dashboard upgrade to the Xbox 360 with enhancements to the Netflix experience. Since that update is essentially "the ability to search," and since Netflix in Canada has no queue to pull content from--forcing you to search for everything--it makes some sense.

Some awkward, inane sense.

So I found my first cavern in minecraft, it's far below my 'house'. I did the 2x2 spiral staircase down, is there a more effective way to get down/up from there? Also there is a waterfall!

You'll have plenty of it eventually. The best way to find minerals is not to dig holes wherever but to explore looking for natural caves, you'll find a lot of stuff right on the surface.

Once you find a natural cave, just dig out in any direction and you will continue to find more caves, more resources and eventually running water and lava.

Coal is probably the best. You can burn wood and planks but they're not as effective. I think someone had said you can use a lava bucket to power them as well?

Yeah lava buckets will do 100 blocks, but it's quicker to just use multiple furnaces and coal. Unless you're trying to pump out hundreds of glass blocks or something.

The real question is whether or not it's worth the loss of 3 Steel when the bucket is consumed. Unless you're always using steel tools for everything and never running out, you're probably better off sticking with coal.

It really depends on which resource is more abundant for you at the time: iron or coal? If iron is more abundant, it is worth it to consume a bucket for 100 smelts with lava.

Although, it seems coal is so abundant anyway (dig, dig, dig) that this shouldn't ever be the case.

Are you just digging in random places? You're not likely to find caves that way, look for caves on the surface to explore. Most of the deep caves are connected somewhere, or hidden behind a dead end wall of another cave.

Beneath the bedrock is just a bottomless drop, there are quite a few holes you can fall through. It would be cool if really nasty monsters crawled out of there though.

Mostly we roam around, some of us build shit or excavate land for resources for others.

The really cool stuff is in building landmarks and other structures, or even recreating neat stuff like Isengard on Mercfox1's server.

Singleplayer to get used to the game mechanics, and to pass the time while multiplayer -- by far the most promising aspect of the game -- matures.
