Surprise! Good Old Games Is Not Dead, Relaunches Tomorrow

61
In a conference online moments ago, representatives of Good Old Games confirmed that its suspected marketing ploy of closing down was just that, a marketing ploy.

Two representatives dressed as monks and referring to GOG as a "brother monk" outlined that the website will relaunch with a new look, replacing "98% of the site's original code."

The website will continue to operate in many ways as it has in the past: Games will still be DRM-free, titles will continue to be sold separately, and GOG will not run off a separate client.

During the conference, disguised as a sermon, the "monks" discussed their disappointment that many people believed the website was shut down. With a line in the original announcement like, "We're closing down the service and putting this era behind us as new challenges await," it's unclear how anyone got that idea.

The pair of "monks" ended the conference by confirming all existing titles will remain and the service will add Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga (including the expansion Tales of the Sword Coast) for $9.99, when the service relaunches tomorrow at 8a.m. EST.

Other hot new features include community-made "GoGMixes" allowing players to create a listing of themed titles to share with GoG users, better searching, forums, a recommendation engine, and a "like" button! So, worth the confusion, fellas!

They need to fire their marketing director (if they have one).

Such a lame, lame idea. Especially, making it so customers couldn't download their games. GOG .. GTFO!

MY VIDEO GAMES!!!!!!!! Their facebook page is pretty hilarious right now with all of the outrage people feel the need to type. The vocal angry internet mob always seems bigger than it is. People will boycott gog just like they "boycotted" mw2 on pc because there isn't a dedicated server.

Seriously though, this was pretty funny to watch. I have kept all of my installers on an external drive just in case something happened. The only thing I was disappointed about was that I might not be able to buy Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic from them. Glad to see them coming back.

The thought of not being able to buy Independence War kinda bummed me out. Glad they're coming back.

The talk about boycotting is silly. They're a smaller company, they re-release hard to find games and they support them for newer operating systems. But they make one joke(a terrible one) and people lose their shit. Its time to just get over it. I know if I were in their shoes and finally got publishing rights to Baldur's Gate, I'd want to do something big.

Also, where are these boycotting assholes when Activision or Ubisoft started doing really shitting things to consumers?

Do something big like...shut down your service unannounced, under the pretense of going out of business, cutting off your customers from accessing the games they bought? Don't go into PR.

Right from the beginning they said "you will be able to download the games you bought".

Right, and a(n apparently) insolvent company always has the power to live up to its promises.

The original statement said "We've debated on it for quite some time and, unfortunately, we've decided that GOG.com simply cannot remain in its current form."

If you're too dumb to realize that this has nothing to do with insolvency or permanent shut-downs, you probably shouldn't be on the internet.

Well, I wouldn't do the same thing. Maybe I just don't understand Polish comedy?

I don't understand Polish comedy either.

I mean, I have an entire book, "Polish Wit & Witticisms". It's just a bunch of blank pages. I don't get it!
