D3Publisher has announced Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for release in Spring 2011.

"Players take on the role of the world's elite soldiers, who will engage in nonstop bug filled arcade action with over 150 weapons and four upgradeable armor sets."

This new title will be developed by Vicious Cycle Software (Matt Hazard series), which is wholly owned by D3Publisher. The original Earth Defense Force 2017 was released in the US in March 2007 for the Xbox 360 and was developed by the Japanese company SANDLOT.

Insect Armageddon will also include a "six-player Survival mode that pits a human squad against a nonstop onslaught of the largest enemies" as well as three-player online co-op for the game's campaign.

A teaser trailer has been released, showing off some of the insects coming to cause said Armageddon.

Oh man, I'm so stoked for this. EDF2017 is quite possibly the best co-op game I've ever played. This will be awesome.

I never really got to play it co-op since none of my friends liked it.

      I still don't understand why.

Cuz the screen would fill with hundreds of enemies while the framerate droped into the single digits.

Something may be wrong with your Xbox. I've played all 53 levels on various difficulty levels, and have never seen it get to a single digit framerate. It might get to 15 or 20, but not less than that.
