New CG Resident Evil Movie Announced for 2012
"Resident Evil: Damnation will feature as its main character Leon S. Kennedy just like its predecessor," reads the press release. "The film is currently in production, with plans for a terrifying 3D release in Japan in 2012."
While a date has only been announced for Japan, Resident Evil movies are released globally with success. It is likely that this will be localized and released outside of Japan at some point. Meanwhile, the fourth live-action Resident Evil movie was released worldwide last Friday and earned more in the film's first weekend in the US than any previous entries in the series.
Well, until they release a fifth.

The live action films are so stupid and pointless (only the first one was pretty entertaining), I don't know why Capcom even allowed them to be made. I'm happy at least Valve cherishes its franchises.

The first and second one were fine. Resident Evil is at its best when the plot is simply: "Zombies and mutant monsters have taken over the research facility and surrounding areas. Get out any way you can." RE1 and RE2 stuck with that, for the most part, and it worked. That CG flick they made a few years ago was worthless. The Resident Evil franchise as a whole needs a reboot so they can get back to Racoon City.

I assume you are talking about the video game and not the movie. RE4 may have been great but as RE5 shows there's nowhere left to go with the story. It and the characters are pretty much played out. They're going to have to start retconning shit or pulling plot devices out of their ass to keep the existing continuity going. It's time for a series reboot.
